King Lear 1974
This is my favourite version of King Lear, a play I hold dearer than my life. I don't think I need to say more, but I have insomnia, so I will: the role of Lear is so nuanced that people usually butcher it. He's either excessively meek and forever frail or too detached for the character to work. James Earl Jones is one of the very few actors who have managed to emphasise the corners of the expansive spectrum of Lear's emotional and psychological world. It is sublime.
