Sciamma is up there with Miyazaki &
Kiarostami when it comes to properly representing young people in movies. She has such a great understanding of the intelligence and integrity that media can tend to avoid. The scenes with Vic and her friends are obviously the highlights here, so natural and lived in. You love to see it.
Kind of disappointed Sciamma gets caught into drug mule narrative. I mean, why do all Banlieue films have to fall into pitiful tragedy?…

Nice to see Baker branch out with screwball comedy of all things. Really funny and uses the New York setting extremely well, remindedd me of the Safdies amongst other things.
Romance angle never really worked for me, it never came close to registering as I think Baker wanted to. Madison is awesome but Anora always felt very surface level as a character, I kinda wish Baker kept to his social realist tendencies and give her a greater, more genuine…Translated from by
