    Memories of Underdevelopment

An experimental approach that's worthwhile. The mix of fiction and the documentary-adjacent facts of Cuba in the 1960s is fascinating and engaging. The fictitious story could likely stand alone without it, but is enhanced by it and manages to make an "unlikable" (but charismatic) lead into one that those outside of Cuba can better understand.

Watched as part of the Screen Cuba festival.

Atmospheric and enjoyable! The perspective here feels so strong, with a wonderful blend of groundedness and whimsy. Mind boggling in a way that's fun, rather than unsatisfactory. I went in with no expectations and I think that may be the way to go.

i wish i liked it more! the era! yes! the art design! yes! fun editing and interesting villains! yes! lots of pretty shots and symbolism! yes! but, i felt underwhelmed and couldn't root for anyone :( maybe i'm missing the point, but some moments/actions didn't feel justified or earned. but i had fun and hey, isn't that the point? maybe, just maybe... the real final girl was the friends we lost along the way :)
