Cars 2006
Who knew cars could be so emotional?! My little boy loved it, especially the races, and, though the film takes a little while to get going, it really gets into gear in the second half. With cameos, pop culture references and fun nods to previous films, Cars certainly makes you smile. It's a fun ride and, dare I say, I even nearly shed a tear towards the end.

Anora 2024
A deeply affecting drama with a standout performance by Mikey Madison who deserves all the awards buzz. She's captivating in every frame. Does the film deserve the Best Picture statue? I'm not sure. Maybe. There are holes and questions but Sean Baker's style keeps you gripped with a sense of realism and chaos that roots you to your seat. It'll stay with you for days.

The End of the Tour 2015
Picking a moment in David Foster Wallace's life rather than a typical biopic The End of the Tour is able to look to the humanity behind creative genius. Jason Segel is stellar in an understated sensitive performance embodying Wallace. A sharp witty script like you would imagine James Ponsoldt directs perfectly with maturity to give a film that will leave a lasting impression and inspire those alike.

Gravity 2013
The hype really couldn't have been higher upon entering the theatre and yet somehow, someway my expectations were well and truly smashed. What Alfonso Cuaron has created is pure magic, it's groundbreaking filmmaking. Every sense is utilised, the sound, the visuals, every possible tool have been used to enhance the narrative and the cinematic experience. Lots has already been said, maybe not too much about the performances. Sandra Bullock is phenomenal. It'll be hard to beat Gravity to film of the year.
