An overhyped fiasco of a movie: awkward, contrived, corny, cheap, off-putting and cringeworthy comedy, not in an edgy way.
Are we supposed to actually laugh and rejoice while Anora gets abducted, abused and gagged with a red scarf for an hour?
A class struggle dynamic with no redeeming qualities is touched upon here and there, across several characters, but is overall flattened by the grotesque comedic distortion that envelops the whole thing.
Anora embodies the dehumanizing consumer fantasy of a devoted worker who loves the consumer so much she does not conceive of her servitude as labor. (Marla Cruz)
