The tonal shift during the OzDust Ball is enough a reason to watch this film. My goodness, Cynthia's ability to convey a whole sandwich of emotions with a simple look can move mountains, if not move you to tears.
Complex protagonists, a fair dose of palace intrigue, and some stellar vocal performances. Sign me up!
Holiday season blockbusters take note.
Seldom do lovers find their happy ever after in Guadagnino's films, which i think has become one of his defining characteristics as a storyteller. And for this, his films have a habit of lingering with you well beyond the credits. It's usually a music queue that brings me back, this time Prince's 17 Days (Piano & a Microphone 1983). And sure enough it left me in a mess of tears on the train reflecting on my own life.
Queer is a trip. It's also a mirror.
Ambitious in scope yet one of the most tender and intimate films I've seen in a long while. The film is not at all concerned with the fact that production spanned over 20 years which is it's strength. Instead, we follow two lovers quietly moving through a world that slowly becomes as lonely as they are. Strangely comforting.
Oh and the music in the film is bomb.
This made me join the Hang-soo hive. Seriously, I could've sat with this film for hours. Instead I left the theater and walked around the city with a slightly greater appreciation for the little things.
