But wow—what a classic revenge story. Maybe even the original revenge story? It’s clear that countless films have drawn inspiration from this timeless tale. The Shawshank Redemption, The Mask of Zorro, Batman Begins, and Kill Bill all come to mind, but I’m sure the list can go on.
Beyond the entertaining narrative, I was completely captivated by the set design, which beautifully captures the essence of Romantic-era Europe. I loved this film so much that I’m now determined to read the book before the year ends.
