Pattinson is one of a kind and the 20s are his decade for sure. This is all over the place, it’s crazy that BJH has resorted back to the Okja/Snowpiercer tone after Parasite. A step backwards, but admittedly an entertaining one. It’s also insane to see some funny little performances from pretty unknown British TV/stage actors in a massive Hollywood movie… Patsy Ferran, Holliday Grainger, Tim Key…

The Girl with the Needle 2024
How on earth has this not been talked about more? Easily one of the best of 2024. Feels like it is straight from Victor Hugo, with every ‘helping hand’ viciously morphing into something sinister and toxic until you can take it no more. It also looks absolutely gorgeous and would serve as an interesting (but albeit bleak) accompaniment to The Brutalist.

The Brutalist 2024
Definitely at its best when Corbet shows us the Van Buren family dynamic- how they interact and subtly squeeze as much out of László, and his family, as they possibly can. Guy Pearce is so fantastic and Alwyn brings a posh sliminess that is best described as akin to a ‘90s Phillip Seymour Hoffman character. Architecture becomes a fruitful and cinematic avenue to explore this dynamic between the ‘settled’ and the ‘settling,’ and this really is an amazingly put together work of art.

Eyes Wide Shut 1999
Perfection; it settles so delicately amongst the veil between liminality and raw desire. This is the greatest film that has ever been made and there is absolutely nothing like it.
