Wish it was 10-15% more unhinged/insane. Kidman and Banderas put in a good shift as you’d expect.
More importantly: this movie has some of the least subtle needle drops ever. We’re talking distractingly on the nose. You’ll know what I mean as they happen, it’s impossible to ignore.
Bateman playing against type is fun, Egerton does a lot of funny running around the airport, and Christmas music plays seemingly at random throughout. Fun but pretty dumb and Edgarton’s character is definitely going to jail regardless of what the movie would have you believe.
A not so friendly reminder that while the monster under your bed or the boogeyman in your closet are the stuff of nightmares, humans (and the evil that the worst of us are capable of) are unfortunately all too real.
Semi-related: Plemons has to be the most reliable character actor working. Don’t think he’s capable of not delivering.
