When I was traveling through the Wakhan valley this summer, where this documentary was shot, I hitched a ride in one of the most cramped up cars I’ve been in. I sat there with an old men, together in the front seat. Conveniently he spoke german, which he learned back in the soviet times. He even still knew a part the poem ‘Die Lorelei’ by Heinrich Heine, which he quoted for me as we rode along the Panj river:
