Eyes Wide Shut 1999
Came for the Christmas lights, stayed for the Christmas lights. I was very confused the whole time and uneasy. I just wasn’t sure what was going on and the mysteriousness of Bill’s series of events had me wishing I could have taken a film and fiction course unpacking this film. I want to watch again with a better understanding of what Kubrick was trying to accomplish with this film after I’ve read some essays written by people who understand filmmaking!…

Babygirl 2024
Really interesting companion piece to Eyes Wide Shut, if it was reimagined from the POV of Alice. The acting and music and costuming was fantastic. There was such a sinister undertone that I was uneasy the entire time, thinking there was something diabolical about to happen but in the end it was just an exploration of what could happen for women to explore their fantasies and how it could ultimately be better for everyone (in some cases, I guess). I hope this film gets nominated for several awards!

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever 2024
I thought this was a sweet film and wasn’t sure why it wasn’t released in more theaters? It will definitely be one we add to our Christmas movie rotation! The book is just such a special classic and I think this movie did a lovely job with their version!

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father 2008
Saddest, most traumatic movie I’ve ever watched probably because the storytelling surprises you in the worst way. I remember feeling sucker-punched and wailing after. Most visceral reaction to a movie because I had no knowledge going into it or any plot twists. Could never watch again but it is very well done, from what I remember.
