I know this is a “for hire” movie for Carpenter, but it’s such a fun ride

Sweet Smell of Success 1957
Burt Lancaster is THE forgotten star of his generation. The script goes a mile a minute and goes over dark subjects at a time where the film industry was just leaving McCarthyism. It covers sex, drugs, politics, press and police corruption in a film made in 1957! Tony Curtis is incredibly slimy as Sidney Falco a lackey and subordinate for Burt Lancaster’s sleazy and ego driven JJ Hunsecker. Both are just awful people who live in the grey and desolate New York but seem to know their way through the filth and thrive in it.
