Fun and lighthearted, the plot was actually not bad. The dialogue was funny
Really well done, good balance between contriving scenarios to forward the plot and having situations be natural and realistic. They did each characters ending really well. The movie wasn’t cheesy at all.
So many things wrong with this film
- no substantial motivation or backing for the Tethers or rise up or whatever
- there were too many scenes where the characters do some ridiculous stuff, the way they move around and fight
- why would the main character go off by herself to find her son at the end while her husband and daughter hide in a truck
- how could the father just get Charles horsed once by himself and…
A beautiful and thought provoking dive into the construct of a family.

Is your “family” something you’re born into or something that can be chosen, built, and created? This movie builds a picture of a scrappy, struggling-but getting-by family that expands through people in going through various hardships: loneliness, rejection, abandonment, abuse. Each scene serves as a vignette to build another facet of who these characters are as people. They are each very believable in their motivations. Despite participating in illegal acts, the film builds the audiences empathy with the characters very well.
