  Mike Leigh has embodied Bazin's dream of the Wellesian filmmaker - rather than filmed theater, Hard Truths is theater-ed film. It is theatrical in a way fitting to film. By centering on a singular character and making her into something of a spectacle, Leigh does essentially what Shakespeare did with Hamlet.
