  Much like 400 Blows its tough to watch this movie without seeing its influence. I get the avant- garde cuts and shots, and the ambiguity of the ending, but the romance between high and low society falls flat

  A good rewatch. Reminded me of how allergic anime is to subtext. Every character says what theyre thinking when they think it. Otherwise the animation is amazing, both in the special effects and in showing how animation can innovate on traditional shots
