Starry Eyes 2014
Starts as one thing and ends as a few others. Extremely strong performance from the lead. Well directed and really moves. If it were made today they’d have to insert 20 minutes of traumatic backstory. No wonder these guys are finding success, this was really good.

Messiah of Evil 1973
A strong entry in the “no plot, just vibes” canon. Seaside horror with kaleidoscope colors. Alternating between long eerie takes and sharp jarring cuts with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it strangeness. They walk to the edge of explaining and pull back, thankfully. I wonder how many times Argento and Romero went to see this. Deep Red and Dawn owe a lot to this thing. A perfect companion to Carnival of Souls where you’re relishing in the fogginess of a dream.

Nosferatu 2024
So much to love about this- the shots in the snow, her blue dress, the shadows, his shadows, the camera floating through rooms, the occult leanings (should have leaned further this way), the two deaths that are a no-no in horror movies, the torches, the scoffing Roma, the candles, the midnight ritual, Defoe’s silvery wig, the final death scene, his way of turning pivotal scenes b&w, the archways, the rats, the tongue, the handwriting.
Happy for Eggers getting another shot…

Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films 2014
So glad this exists, but plays a lot like one of those old VH1 shows where they quickly cut between people. Very important to document the cultural force that is Cannon Films and make sure their legacy is never forgotten.
