thought i would enjoy this but honestly shocked how much it made me emotional. earnest and hopeful and overflowing with love. it’s all about love. and it’s genius. can you believe in a world of never-ending reboots that almost none of them asked the question “what does it mean to go back?” no wonder people hate it

loved it so much! this solidifies to me that sean baker is the probably the modern american mike leigh. radically humanist, 100 percent nonjudgmental, seemingly effortless in craft, and just funny too. these are the stories of people no one tells. this is movies to me

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 2004
while grand budapest is maybe the climax of him refining his style and worldview, i think i prefer this as my favorite of wes anderson’s movies. feels deeply personal while still maintaining his trademark silliness, but the comedy is paired with his most melancholic tone. that sequence in the submarine is such a tear-jerker, and it’s all there in bill murray’s face. god level performance
sometimes i think about how cool it would be to be on a boat crew. that’s it, just think it’d be cool
