  Kiyoshi Kurosawa has long been one of my very favorite filmmakers ever since I saw Cure, and Cure has long been one of my very favorite movies. It, and the other Kurosawa movies I've seen, introduced me to a "less is more" approach to filmmaking that advocated for sparse cinematography with little movement and few cuts, which only served to make certain situations all the more unsettling.   Trying to review or even talk about a Luis Bunuel film in this day and age seems silly. What could I possibly add to the conversation surrounding the master of cinematic surrealism and an iconoclast rivaled only by Goddard? Even with this monumental task ahead of me, this movie forces my hand. I MUST add my take to the chorus of voices, however inconsequential it might be.

  Everyone always shits on this movie and I don't know why. Maybe it because I went in knowing whodunnit, so I focused on other things. But this movie is weirdly rewatchable, and I credit a lot of that to both Branagh's directing and lead performance. I also like that it genuinely grapples with the morality of the crime, unlike the 74 version. I dunno, this is hardly a masterpiece, but it's always an enjoyable watch for me.
