I was four years old for MJ's final championship in '98 - just a little too young to appreciate the magnitude of what MJ was accomplishing. And just a little too young to process what an athlete was doing for his sport, his city, his race, and his country. He was larger than life, not only standing far taller than the other giants of his sport, but transcending the sport itself.

Growing up in the 2000 and 2010's, you see…

First, I loved how incredibly simple this was as a cinematic production. There was no score, no fancy graphics or expensive props. Every scene felt as though I was there as a bystander with an iPhone, who just happened to be present and recording as each scene unfolded. Maybe it was a budget decision, but not letting fancy camera work or scenery get in the way of the writing and the acting was the best possible approach for this film.…

Captures the complexity of how Jews in post World War Two had to navigate the tension of fulfilling their Jewish identity while also trying to assimilate into a society in which they are marginalized. All while dealing with macro and micro identity crises brought on by discrimination and power structures and no time to process if they wanted to rebuild.

This problem is quite literally why Israel exists and why Jews were forced to contemplate if making Aliyah was their only option.

Never before have I felt an urge to record my immediate afterthoughts on something I've witnessed or experienced. But I'm doing so now, in part, because I know I'm going to want to return to this moment again and again.

In his 60-minute one man act, Jonny had me laughing and crying with such rapid alternation that I found myself forgetting which emotion the last line was supposed to elicit. The film's charm, wit, and surprising hilarity make it a…

Maybe I see myself a little too much in Jesse. The unremarkable, cynical, American traveling by himself in Europe, who can't speak anything but English, looking to "find himself."

But the hyper-realism of the all too familiar "beginning of something" conversations won me over. You don't need a big budget or a surprising plot to make a good movie. You just need to tell a story with actors who make the audience care.
