Me and You and Everyone We Know

I like quirk, I like intentional color palates, and I like understated scores, but I’m certainly not a fan of the casual depiction pedophilia… and that is the unfortunate thing that I’m going to remember most about this movie.  Not only are there are multiple subplots depicting pedophilia in various presentations, but the discomfort is multiplied by how it’s played as though it’s some naïve and ultimately innocent human curiosity that we should sympathize with.

    The Substance

Very bold, colorful, and visually striking.  This is hardly a hot or interesting take, but the body horror really lives up to its name, so just keep that in mind.  Someone in the theater I was in threw up during the first transition, and someone else passed out later on.  There’s a scene in Requiem for a Dream that really got me the first time I saw it, and if you know what I’m talking about, be prepared for a…

    Eating Raoul

Good god… how on earth has this movie maintained a reputation as a dark comedy classic?  I am truly baffled that it was ever positively received… it didn’t just age horribly, I don’t understand how it ever got produced and distributed in the early 80s. This is a  “comedy”  that is riddled with scenes of rape and racism... It was truly hard to watch within minutes.

Even if you ignored the scenes of rape, and the incredibly gross racial stereotyping…
