Expected this to be a lot sillier/funnier than it actually ended up being. Unfortunately, none of the off-kilter gags seemed to land - pretty sure most of the cinema audience didn't laugh at all.
Whilst I did find the film entertaining at points it did feel pretty inconsequential and disappointing. There's almost no plot at all, the 'twist' is fairly pedestrian and obvious, and the characters lacked any depth. The monkey is pretty unnerving though, and the effects were decent.

Incredible film that has stayed in my head for a good few weeks after watching. The first half did an amazing job of capturing the essence of a whirlwind romance and was super fun to watch. The much more tense/emotional second half is really what has stuck in my head though - I thought it provided a really interesting commentary on the American Dream, and the complex relationships between sex, love and power. Madison absolutely deserves recognition for an incredible performance in the lead role, and I felt the supporting cast was also really good (particularly Borisov).

Many important lessons in this film for architects:
- The client will always fuck you over (and not always metaphorically)
- Contractors would try to value engineer their own grandmother if it suited them to do so - proposing to use American stone instead of Carrara marble is just, like, _unfathomable_ bro, like do you have any taste at all? It’s ok if you’ve been permanently emotionally disturbed by your many years working on the Great American Endless Strip Mall…
