I like Anderson’s ‘style’ a lot, I’m all for the detail, the anti-naturalism, the sets, the way it works more like theatre than film, but if you strip such a style away from this film, I’m not entirely sure what is left behind. However beautifully you dress up genteel cliché, I felt that was the bottom line, and I came out more engaged by my own fantasies of where you could take such a style, rather than what WA is actually doing with it, which leaves me cold and annoyed. I dunno, maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I was younger.
