Kneecap 2024
Bursting with energy and a relish for life. Endlessly imaginative in its visual storytelling, and incredibly fun to watch. Also a very funny, often poignant script, and a great look at life in 21st century Belfast and at Northern Ireland's haunted social politics. I'm also very impressed at the band members' performances, because being a talented musician (and they're very talented musicians) doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a good actor, even when you're playing yourself. The supporting cast is also quite good, particularly Simone Kirby as Naoise's mother. Check it out, I say.

Stop Making Sense 1984
Possibly the best thing that has ever happened in human history.
David Byrne is so truly joyful and beautiful in this film, and so is everyone else on the stage. A genuinely enchanting, exhilarating movie.
It's also filmed/edited very well.

What I really appreciate on this rewatch is the humor. It's not the funniest Muppet movie, but it's up there, and it might be the the last film that captured the charming, off-beat wit that defined them in the beginning. More than that, however, it never lets the humor undermine its dramatic weight. There really is no bathos here, because the movie scrupulously avoids any, withdrawing Gonzo and Rizzo in the section with the final ghost and trusting the emotional…
