  Speaking of horror movies willem dafoe is in, the lighthouse attempts to do a similar thing to this movie, that is, explore the eroticism and aesthetics of a traditional/historical horror culture—and succeeds. Unlike this movie, its subject matter is pretty niche (maritime horror/superstition?). Where this movie fails I think, is largely in its tackling of such an overrepresented and broad horror subject. Both this and the witch seem to be attempting to revive the traditional horror of figures so overdone…

  This movie is truly such a good adaptation of the stage musical, all of its choices are made in such a way to allow for an apt transition to the medium of film. What a cinematic masterpiece; what a musical masterpiece. I kind of forgot 

  Eddie redmayne ISNT being too unnerving, he’s bad at acting 🙄
