The 2018 film Under the Silver Lake had a budget of $8.5 million and made $2,053,469 worldwide. In the United States, it made $46,083. Crazy for an A24 film this good—it's a slow burner mystery film that follows a stalker who notices the disappearance of women in California and as he investigates these cases, he accidently uncovers a cult.

The 1997 film Gummo had a budget of $1.3 million and made $116,799 at the box office. This movie is purely gut wrenching, a display of white trash America starring Chloe Sevigny. A super unsettling watch but oddly beautifully grotesque.

I love experimental film. Gummo is odd, it’s a weird film; it’s uncomfortable and dirty. But it’s also somehow intimate and, for lack of a better word, charming. It’s ugly and beautiful at the same time. While it is fiction, I’d say the way the story is told is closer to a memoir than it is to the traditional novel.

The Virgin Suicides is a novel adaptation (written by Jeffrey Eugenides), still, I don’t know how Sofia Coppola does it.
