Rumble Fish 1983
Watch this side-by-side in succession of László Benedek's The Wild One and watch Mickey Rourke take on the ghost of Marlon Brando.
Not all of it works for me—and I am largely parrotting Vecchiali when I say this—but the last two shots in the film are pure poetry, and worthy of Kazan, Lang, or any of the greatest filmmakers. Everything from the moment the glow of the river reflects on Dillon's face onwards is Coppola in a flow state punching far above his weight class. This isolated sequence alone is probably my favourite thing he's ever directed.

Though, in recent memory, one Kubrick has stood out among the rest. The pendulum has swung—and in keeping with the holiday spirit—that crown is now bestowed upon none other than Kubrick's grandeur swan song, Eyes Wide Shut.
Much like Kubrick’s earlier…
