  There is a mid-paradox going on in Novocaine. It is such an efficient little movie. I'm actually blown away at the screenplay. There's so many important narrative contexts explained by brief lines of dialogue. There's an equal amount of clear-cut setup and payoff that just tickles my writer's brain. It's not nuanced, it's far from subtle, but it is tight and textbook. It also doesn't hurt that Novocaine has a supremely rare quality in movies these days. It's sincere. A…

  Rigor Mortis 2013

  I don't think I've seen horror lost in translation to this degree before. Rigor Mortis approaches horror from an incredibly immediate place. There is no desire to create a sense of foreboding, buildup, or anticipation. It is completely unlubricated horror. While this approach doesn't personally keep me on the edge of my seat, there is something incredible about it. I'm sure this experience completely rips in its home country, but to my eyes and ears it is oppressively nonchalant.

  Listening to someone talk about their dreams is very boring. What exactly is it that makes one zone out immediately in the throes of dream-talk? Perhaps most people aren't interesting storytellers. This is coupled with the fact that dreams aren't (usually) captivating stories. They're often random, vaguely personal, and unless really dug into- likely pointless.
