True to form, Mann as a craftsman puts out a well-made movie. But I don’t think I could have been less engaged in the story. The dialogue is difficult to understand, the emotional beats and stakes don’t land (I did think Penelope Cruz was good), and Driver gives an intentionally disciplined, distant, but ultimately lifeless performance. The only sequence I was interested in was the race, which again highlights the skill of the crew. 3 stars on craft alone
As much as this movie was physically entertaining (man Fincher has this thing tight and there are some awesome sequences) I enjoyed it more for the metaphysical questions it asks.

Goth Batman. Pattinson channels a lot of rage into Bruce Wayne, which isn’t exactly revolutionary but is definitely a different angle than Bale.

This franchise is at its best when edge-of-your-seat stunt thrills are front and center, which this film delivers delightfully and in spades in the third act.
What stopped this from being higher fro me was how bogged down the opening half hour to 45 minutes felt with exposition. No momentum to jumpstart the film. The bureaucratic conversation centered around Cary Elwes I found particularly boring. It doesn’t feel like the movie really gets started until after the airport scene.
