It's alright. The premise is pretty substantially underexplored, mostly because they make the kinda bizarre choice to make the entire premise of the film (the main character's a robot) an end-of-first-third plot twist instead of telling us the premise right from the beginning and spending the entire movie having fun with it
A Hallmark-level romcom where the meet-cute involves a serial killer. This movie understands the fun parts of both of its genres and plays them off each other flawlessly.
Offensively toothless schlock. You mean to tell me that, in this movie about one of the most controversial anti-war artistic figures during the height of Civil Rights and Vietnam protests, the climax of the story involves him being kind of a dick at a folk music festival? It's a film that loves posturing about heavy, relevant themes while being deeply allergic to actually exploring them. A movie that spends the first two-thirds convincing you that it is an uneasy and uncompromising look at the manipulation that goes into deceiving the vulnerable, only to spend the entire third act undoing all its subtlety with ham-fisted, shark-jumping revenge fantasy nonsense. I give the movie credit because McKellen and Mirren are excellent (which is a little like giving gravity credit for continuing to exist), but the script is cheap and exploitative, and nothing else in the movie merits significant comment.
