  Feels like Kurosawa in total playwright mode. So many big ideas on his mind. I've come to appreciate his dramas just as much (if not more sometimes) than the samurai movies.

  The characters are such excellent foils. Takashi Shimura's face is so comforting to me, a wonderful mix of goofiness, sincerity, and a sort of unkempt pitiable demeanor. Then Mifune as a yakuza member is just 10/10; we see shades of the brutishness and physicality that make his later unhinged…

  "I feel like a spectator in my own life"

  One of my favorites of the last couple years, feels so specific to our cultural moment, like this character could only exist now. Light and breezy and playful but surprises you with these sudden turns and gut punches. Really understands how attraction develops and persists. Also terrifyingly accurate portrayal of long term breakup conversations & also tripping lol. Big fan, will continue to revisit so long as I continue to relate (as a beautiful/aimless person obvi)
