imagining sion sono on set describing to his actors how today you will be raping his real life wife. this movie showed me that I’m apparently a huge prude because my stomach was absolutely turning by the end. it was mostly gripping albeit a little droning in the middle, but the very end finale fell so flat for me. it’s a good character study and commentary on repression and toxic masculinity, but the messaging is so bleak that I wonder…
