  This entire movie almost entirely stars women (and was directed, co-written, and cut by women) and the queer longing is bubbling throughout the entire film. While both, Julie and Cara, manipulate their students and their desires (which is a consistent theme in movies on queer women...), I found it fascinating to watch this 1950s film which so clearly portrayed queer desire and first and foremost painful longing. And with its melodramatic beats it is to this day an entertaining film…
