There are moments I loved (the stretched silhouette of Nosferatu’s hand out over Wisborg is such a fabulous shot); there are moments I squirmed and recoiled too (I hate rats and there are gruesome deaths); but at the end, despite all the nice shots, sets, acting and drama, I was left thinking: “What am I meant to take from this?”

    Every single frame is gorgeous.

Your eyes are desperately trying to take in all the detail, but it’s all fleeting, and you’re left realising you should enjoy every moment for what it is rather then trying to remember and recapture them.

Colours, composition, sound, depth, framing — each element is so artfully used. But what I loved more than anything was the use of long, lingering shots on the eyes of Noémie Merlant & Adèle Handel. Their acting is superb, but it’s the work with the eyes (in place of words) that is phenomenal, so too the small, subtle intonations with their faces.
