Belle 2013
What it lacks in subtlety it makes up for in earnestness (and beautiful costumes). A perfectly mediocre period drama/romance—an essential component of our media ecosystem! I think the beauty of the film is hampered somewhat by its editing, which feels largely perfunctory and occasionally ludicrous, and does a disservice to both cast and director. The Pool of Nobodies 2022
Gripping, brutal, necessary. Had the privilege of listening to the director speak at KCUFF after our screening, where he shared that he wanted this film to feel like “a punch in the face.” At times it felt like watching people trying to survive a Saw trap.
