  For a film largely about grief and how we experience emotion I found myself not very emotionally engaged with this. That being said I thought it was brilliant, beautifully crafted with great performances from the leads. So maybe I'm just cold hearted 🤷‍♀️

  While it doesn't quite commit to the musical genre, these sequences still blend expertly with the story and tone. Guillermo's use of fascist Italy as the films backdrop, as well as an updated ending shifts the ideology and gives new context to the story so that it can very much become its own.
