House of Hummingbird 2018
The term “home is where the heart is” plays a huge part in the meaning behind this film. It’s a tough way to live when we can’t feel safe in not only our figurative home, but our literal one as well.

Fallen Angels 1995
Hong Kong is the place where the Culture of The West and The East melt together. I feel that Chungking express represents the Western side of Hong Kong, the dreams, the lights, and the surface. Fallen Angels shows what’s under all of that superficiality, the real people who make up the city, striping away the romanticization that was ever present in Chungking Express. These two films were certainly a very interesting watch especially with what happened in Hong Kong last year, and as always Kar-Wai’s movies are masterfully made.

To me, this film is a gift. I don't even remember how I first caught wind of this before my first watch, but I'm so glad I did. All this time later and it still takes my breath away. The absolutely beautiful visuals paired with the emotional story is just something else. Nothing else really compares with the impact this has on me. Searching for and eliminating the distance you feel towards a connection is portrayed so powerfully and beautifully…

I Saw the Devil 2010
Way too long, repetitive and predictable but it somehow kept my attention the whole runtime. The two characters are surface level but at least very entertaining and there's always something twisted happening on-screen. It's very violent, gory and hard to watch at times, they did a good job at making it look realistic. Not much of a story but it's more character driven so it's a real shame we didn't get to know the characters more. The opening scene with the snowy setting was perfection. Good-looking movie overall, nice score, good acting, some thrilling fight sequences. Satisfying ending.
