    Geology movie!

There is a shot early on of a dipping limestone strata exposed on the side of a cliff. As part of the Appenine mountain range these rocks were uplifted to form this mountain range as part of the Appenine orogeny ~ 20 million years ago. But these rocks are much older than that, they were likely formed on the floor of the Tethys Sea during the Mesozoic era, commonly known as the "age of dinosaurs".

EDIT: Like, not even half an hour later I realise my read is wrong. The relationship between Fassbender and Blanchett is not the dressing, it's the salad. 3 1/2* to 4*.

ORIGINAL: Sexy, fun and impeccably made but like so much post "retirement" Soderbergh I really question what it adds up to. Too neat. Though it is interesting as maybe the last gasp of the Anglo-US "special relationship" in regards to foreign policy.

Look I'm in no position to be criticising people for their looks but I was astonished when I found out there was only a 2 year age gap between Edmond O'Brien and Joan Fontaine.

I was properly blown away by this. Bizzare and utterly unique, it's a folk horror that really leans into the folk. Stunning to look at, several sequences are Tarkovsky esque, gliding above a stream while the mud and beauty put Ivan's Childhood and Andrei Rublev very much into focus. The churning soundscape created by modern instrumentation combined with traditional folk instruments helps create a perfect, intoxicating atmosphere.
