    Mickey 17

    Fascinating concept, baffling execution

Mickey 17 is weird. There’s no denying that. But weird can be a good thing, especially for a movie that involves cloning. I had high hopes for this movie. The trailers were very promising. Yet after watching it, I feel more let down by Mickey 17 than anything.

My biggest complaint with the movie is that it very suddenly changes tacks for the last 30-45 minutes. I was fascinated as the story explored Mickey’s life after…

All the Light We Cannot See was always going to be a difficult book to adapt. Anthony Doerr’s prose has a lyrical quality to it that comes across best in writing. But, all things considered, Shawn Levy and Steven Knight did a decent job adapting the novel.

The series is at its strongest when exploring the parts of the story that take place in the past. For the most part, the “past” events were lifted…

    The Super Mario Bros. Movie

    ★★★★★

Let me start off by saying this: Don’t listen to the critics. If you grew up with Mario, you will love this movie.

Simply put, this movie is the most exquisite love letter to the most influential video game series of all time. It is abundantly obvious that so much care went into every last detail.

There are Easter eggs galore. Nearly every mainline Mario game is referenced, including a few spinoff games. The Mario Kart sequence had me smiling…
