Paramount made a huge mistake by not releasing this last year and having it eligible for awards.

While it is ultimately a by the numbers biopic, it dives into the life and philosophy behind one of the worlds greatest musicians and ultimately spreads a positive message. Anchored by an awards worth performance by Kingsley Ben-Adir, the movie feels very lived in and very authentic to not just the political situation going on in Jamaica but also with Bob and his…

There is a good movie in here somewhere but unfortunately it gets lost in an illogical plot, bad CGI/ADR and a very weak villain.

It’s hard to figure out who to ultimately blame for this. Is it the script from the writing duo who wrote the somehow worse Morbius? I don’t think it’s a bad thing to just enjoy movies for what they are. This is absolutely one of those movies. Borrowing from Kreischer’s alleged real life incident of when he helped the Russian mob rob a train when he was studying abroad, we get a film not unlike The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.  While I didn’t enjoy this as much as I did that film, this shared similar charm works to great effect as the unlikely pairing of…

Despite the casting of  Chris Pratt as Mario, this was actually a lot of fun. The plot is simple, the animation is gorgeous, has a stacked voice cast and will entertain the kids and fans of the games alike. There are plenty of Easter eggs, some too on the nose and some delightfully subtle. The Pratt casting hurts more especially once you realize Charles Martinet briefly voices a not important character. Jack Black and Anya Taylor-Joy make up for Pratt and it’s still a lot of fun and will help you forget the 90s live action film
