  Every dollar this movie makes is a middle finger to those trying to suppress it from being seen. Every force of evil that does not want you to see No Other Land — especially the US, where it still lacks wide distribution — makes it a literal must-watch.

  Aftersun moves between the past and the present like a half-remembered dream — falling asleep on the car ride home, lights washing over your face, safe and sound because your parents know everything and have it all under control. A moment where the armor slips, revealing that that isn’t the case at all. Realizing over time that we never really know the people who raised us as people at all. I’ve never seen a film get it so heartbreakingly right.

  “Apolitical war movie” is a paradox. Such a thing does not, cannot exist. I don’t know what I find more deplorable: the cowardice of staging an American war detached from any American context, or that Alex Garland intended this as a “love letter” to journalism.
