They truly don't make 'em like this anymore. American Graffiti absolutely floored me. This film has been on my watchlist for a long time, and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to see it in theaters for its 50th anniversary. Star Wars will always be near and dear to my heart, but George Lucas really crafted something special here. I quickly grew nostalgic for a time I was never alive in. The cars, the culture, it all felt…

    Driving Miss Daisy

    ★★★★½

A simple yet sweet film. Morgan Freeman & Jessica Tandy have wonderful chemistry together, and seeing their friendship blossom over the course of several years felt natural & heartfelt. Dan Aykroyd was also nice to see here, and he played off the others well. I appreciated the film's subtle commentary on racism. Not explicitly the focus of the plot, but always lurking just under the surface.

This movie is probably 4 stars, but it gets bumped up to a 4 ½ due to its sheer entertainment factor. Trap is an absolute blast! M. Night Shyamalan crafted something really fun w/this one. What I really love is how the film is just over-the-top enough to help sell the ridiculousness of the situation Cooper is in, while allowing for genuine moments of levity in an extremely harrowing scenario. The concert setting also feels unique, bringing a sense of…

    Watchmen: Chapter I

    ★★★½

Watchmen: Chapter I is an overall decent start at adapting the graphic novel. I had a similar experience watching this new version tonight as I did watching Zack Synder's 2009 adaptation; while there are many aspects I thought they nailed, there are also elements that struggle and drag the film down slightly for me.

My primary critique coming off this first viewing is the pacing. The film is paced far, far too quickly. Watchmen is a dense comic, with each…

    Better Man

Now THAT is how you make a musical biopic.

I absolutely loved this film. Better Man has to be one of the most creative theatrical experiences I've ever seen. The choice to portray Robbie Williams as a CGI monkey, to my pleasant surprise, works wonders for this story. Through this new lens, a deeply human story is told, and I honestly think it resonates with me more than if it had followed a traditional route.

    I knew next to nothing…
