The Substance 2024
As a long time fan of body horror and practical effects I was transfixed by this film, a visual fever dream. Funny and horrific all at once. Spiralling into insanity in the final 30 minutes giving off the wall the thing, society and videodrome. RESPECT THE BALANCE.

Cinematically it looks great and I can't disagree that it's made well, but going in expecting it to be kinky, taboo, risk taking etc. and it's just an affair with some mild Dom Sub action and Nicole Kidman constantly talking about how dirty and dangerous her desires are was kinda I don't know underwhelming I guess. But I'd like to add that a good watch after this would be the mother from 2003 with Daniel Craig and Anne Reid.

Look honestly it's not good, but did I enjoy it ... Very much so. Chucky x Renesmee Cullen is pretty ridiculous but alot of fun. I would have enjoyed it more if there was less blandly written family drama with irritating performances and more M3GAN dancing with a machete down a corridor.

Look I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece but my god in an opening night screening it was so so enjoyable. it’s surprisingly well made fan service that was thoroughly enjoyable. And it was genuinely heartwarming to be in an audience so involved in the lore of a game that now spans almost 10 years they will almost definitely make more as Matthew lillard is in a 3 picture deal with blumhouse and the set up for spring trap and I’m not mad about it. (I mean I will be mad if jacksepticeye and markiplier don’t feature in any of the sequels)
