Of course this will hit harder for black british audiences or the african diaspora, but... imagine what the first movie written and directed by a black british person would be and you've got it. Which isn't really their fault, and there's an injustice in seeing an underrepresented story and feel like you've already heard it. Overall, it is what it is and it's explicitly not for me.

It's hard to say exactly why I'm not connecting with this, if I…

Better than I expected. It almost feels like two movies and dragged on a bit, but I liked those two movies. I felt like I hadn't watched a French film in a while and this is like smoking a carton. Very whimsical, not especially funny, IDK, it's good if you're in the mood for something cute. It's a film for your corny aunt, but corny aunts don't watch movies like this anymore and it's left for the freaks to find pleasure in it.

Unbelievable. Obviously he's not hurting for acclaim, but how is this not in the conversation as one of Marty's best movies? If not for having maybe the best score ever, this would easily be better than Taxi Driver imo.
Patricia Arquette is the perfect actress for a Schrader script. Best Nic Cage movie.

Every cop movie should be an ambulance movie...fuck I've got to watch ambulance now.
The pain we all go through doesn't wash off.
