What even is this crap? It feels like Ryan O'Neal stubbled onto the set of some lobotomized, pseudo-Lynchian version of The Long Goodbye after not sleeping for weeks. Jack is off the leash, giving a performance that perfectly embodies both the broader characterization that has defined his career and the absolute reckless desolation that was the 70s dissolving of peace and love in a post-Vietnam America. The whole film is perfectly emblematic of just wanting to exert your freedoms amongst a backdrop of relative hopelessness. It's getting drunk and not giving a damn about setting up your hotel room cot correctly and just wanting to get some sleep.
