This movie made my skin crawl in the most entertaining way. Demi acted her ass off in a role that required a lot of psychological and physical vulnerability. It’s layered in commentary that, as a man, I have probably barely scratched the surface of fully understanding.

Film’s first great trilogy of remakes, all around 50 years apart.
I loved this movie. The use of shadows is unparalleled. The performances are stellar. The sets, wardrobe, dialogue, and cosmetic make up are all perfect examples of why it’s great to obsess over detail when you are making a period piece. Bill disappeared into this role. Between this and Pennywise he seems fit to be the next Bela Lugosi, without Lugosi’s eventual fall into low budget paycheck movies.

As a neurodivergent, queer, 90s kid… this movie validated my memories and feelings in a way that I’m grateful for.

“…but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant…”

As someone from the rural south this movie felt like it happened in my home town. There are no shortage of stories detailing the corruption of police in places like NYC, LA, and Baltimore. However, I rarely see rural town law enforcement corruption depicted beyond the cop simply being racist or working with a criminal for extra cash. Saulnier’s gift as a filmmaker is making things feel believable. Green Room was unique because it’s characters avoided the dumb mistakes trope…
