I was a little confused. I wanted to like this more than I actually did.
Got to see this on an earlier screening =) I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say... it's a worthy ending!
For the series overall: 1666>1978>1994 (in my opinion). As you watch the series you feel yourself getting pulled deeper and deeper into the mystery and then at the end you get pulled back up and it all comes together. The whole thing is kind of revealing of the current zeitgeist for period piece nostalgia in TV and film.
This film is perfect for what it is. Also Elvira is such a badass - she's a kind of an antihero like Wario. I love how she's so kind and witty, but also stands up for herself when needed. And her whole schtick is basically comedy drag, so this film is gay guy approved (even though the hunk never took off his shirt).
