CC Challenge 10/52: Andrew Garfield’s Closet Picks:
Vérité documentary filmmaking is totally new to me and admittedly took a little while to click. When it did I found it to be a genuine tough watch, not due to any formal qualities, but just due to how grimy the whole concept is. So much more depressing than I was expecting. Parts of this felt scripted, but I think that is just a testament to the quality of filmmaking on display. A true American picture, as I don’t know if I can think of anything more American than a door to door bible salesman.

The Straight Story 1999
It may be because of when I chose to watch this for the first time, but I can’t help but see a lot of David Lynch in Alvin Straight. A man whose actions may perplex those around him, but who stays the course regardless of what they may say. Someone who made the world a little more interesting for those around him. A true 1 of 1. Never had much interest in watching this because I always wrote it off…
