An enjoyable little movie. Clever commentary on the 21st century Jewish-American identity and its anxieties, while also feeling universal.

I thought Benji could toned it down 10% the whole movie. I found both this movie and Anora grating for having its mouthy New Yorker character saying ‘fucking’ every other word as if that makes a character’s dialogue witty. I overall really liked his character, but it could’ve developed more slowly—he sort of went from 0-100 freaking out on the train.…

Some great cinematography and atmosphere—don’t feel like it came together. Some of the dialogue was really awkward, and for a movie that takes such big swings at big ideas and emotions, it all felt kind of one-note. And there was a lot of fluff—too Terrence Malick-y by half.

Not taking down the rating too much because I just really couldn’t get invested into it positively or negatively.

Disclaimer: I went into this knowing that this is not my type of movie (gore and very unsubtle satire.) That being said, this movie legitimately impressed me in how dumb I found it.

This movie exemplifies a certain type of writing where it feels like the whole world exists only as a  a flimsy vehicle for the Thought-Provoking Premise. For a movie that is a painfully slow 2 hours 20 minutes, there is basically no worldbuilding.…

One of my favorite novels—extremely disappointing adaptation. Watchable enough in general but comically underdeveloped plot. The Klosterman humor sorta works in the screenplay but the dramatic parts definitely do not fit. Absolutely massacred the ending both in execution and meaning. Klostermaniacs in shambles.
