I did enjoy this, it's quite a simple story and it's very slick.
My only real problem was that I just didn't buy Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. I felt like there was no chemistry at all there and they were both so deadpan it didn't feel real. There was no movement at all on Cate Blanchett's face.
The other characters had more layers and I really enjoyed them, Naomi Harris especially.

It is 2hrs 20 and could have lost 20 minutes, it does go on a bit at times.
There are some very funny scenes involving Mark Ruffalo and Toni Colette, who are both great.
I did enjoy how quirky it was, but kinda wanted it to be a bit more thinky like a Philip K Dick adaptation, which it did have some of the feel of.
Sort of Heinlein (Starship Troopers) crossed with Dick (something like Total Recall..)
Missed opportunity for a threesome scene, disappointing.

One of my stars is for fan service. This is so meta that it's like one long in joke. But I do know people who haven't seen the show are enjoying it, and I'm pleased about that.
Maggie Smith is still hilarious, Penelope Wilton gets some nice comebacks. Imelda Staunton is maybe a bit underused but lovely.
Poor Edith is a bit too fortunate in this film, I was looking forward to suffering with her... Mary is still perfect.

The acting is great and this film looks gorgeous. If anything there's a lack of directorial flair at times, but it's really worth seeing on a big screen.
I felt they pulled off the famous scenes that must have been intimidating to do, such as Danvers at the window...
It was also much more romantic than the Hitchcock and I believed in them as a couple, which is a problem that I had with Olivier and Joan Fontaine. Famously Joan…
