A second viewing has brought a lot of clarity to my understanding of the film. Where I initially complained that the revelation that Benitez is intersex came out of no where, I realize now that it is precisely the point.

Thank goodness Jesse caught that moth when he did. Otherwise, it probably would’ve flown into my open mouth sometime in the second act.
I don’t know what I think of the movie, yet. But these things stuck out to me:
- The dialogue is stiff and unnatural. These are exceptional actors, so it is without a doubt an intentional feature of the film. Their acting is muted and the emotion is, in large part, dulled from their interactions.
